Cecil C. Bauer

Cecil C. Bauer, age 90, of Portage, WI, a former long-time Janesville resident died Friday, June 17, 2016 at Divine Savior Health Care in Portage. He was born on February 27, 1926 in Winner, SD, the son of Albert and Vila (Dunwiddie) Bauer. The family moved to Janesville when he was a young child and he attended Janesville schools graduating from Janesville High School. Cecil served in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific in World War II and later served during the Korean Conflict. Cecil married Marjorie Gyr on October 27, 1956. He was employed as a meat cutter for many years working for A & P Grocery, Graves SuperValu and Sentry Grocery over the years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Janesville, a former member of the Masonic Lodge and a life-member of Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621 where he was a past post commander. Cecil enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting with family and friends, fishing the lakes of the Eagle River Chain and going on long drives in any season. Cecil and Marge enjoyed 45 years of their Eagle River cottage and all the memories made with family and friends. Cecil and Marge moved to Portage 3 ½ years ago from Janesville. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Bauer of Portage, his son, Richard (Sheila) Gyr of Pardeeville, WI, his grandson, Erik Gyr of Madison, WI, “grandson” Eric Knudtson,  his brother, Roger Bauer of Janesville, two nieces, Debra (Mark) Saunders and Teresa (Douglas ) Henning, two nephews, Steven Bauer and Allen Bauer. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his grandson, Randal Gyr as well as two brothers, Merlin Bauer and Arland Bauer.
Services will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Milton Lawns Memorial Park Chapel, 2200 Milton Avenue, Janesville. His grandson, Erik Gyr will officiate the prayer service. Burial will follow in Milton Lawns with military graveside rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until Noon Tuesday in Milton Lawns Chapel. The family is being assisted by Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home, Portage and Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, Janesville.
